Mubarak opens Davos forum on May 18

President Hosni Mubarak will open on May 18 the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh with 12 heads of state taking part.

A top of participant heads of state will be US President George W Bush, King Abdullah II of Jordan, King Mohammed VI of Morocco and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas along with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa and UAE President Sheikh Khalifa ben Zayyed.

The conference will also be attended by more than 1,500 officials and key investors from 70 countries, said Minister of Trade and Industry Rasheed Mohammed Rasheed at a press conference Monday.

The forum will take up several topics including peace in the Middle East, regional tourism, water resources in the Middle East and sustainable development in the region, said Rasheed at the press conference.

Other topics will figure high on the talks’ agenda, including the soaring food prices and the consequences of global inflation on the regional countries, he added. The conference will also offer an opportunity for businessmen and investors to rub shoulders, he pointed out.
